Michelle has recently returned from a three day visit to Majorca. She visited a number of hotels close to Palma and Port De Pollenca but the highlight of her trip was a one night stay at the Belmond Residencia in Deia.

majorca-001After a short flight we arrived at Palma Airport and were met by Jane, Castaways representative in Mallorca. Our first stop was the Bendinat Hotel which is only a short distance from Palma making it a fantastic choice as you can stay in a relaxing resort but be within a few minutes of the capital. The hotel's 54 rooms are a mixture of traditional and modern styles. It is located in a peaceful residential area, surrounded by pretty gardens close to the waters edge. Lunch was served at Las Terrazas del Bendinat restaurant. The food was delicious and the restaurant is very popular with locals so I would recommend making a reservation before you travel.

Next we visited the luxurious St Regis Mardavall, an impressive hotel located in lovely gardens by the sea and within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Puerto Portals Marina. The hotel has excellent children's facilities and a club open daily from April until October. The superb Arabella Spa and Health centre located in the grounds offers a comprehensive range of health, beauty and body treatments making this hotel an excellent choice for a spa break.

Our dinner was hosted by the Arabella Sheraton. Built in the style of a Spanish country mansion and located adjacent to the Arabella Golf Son Vida course, the hotel is the perfect choice for golfers. The hotel is sold on a 'golf-inclusive' basis and runs a regular shuttle to a number of courses. Families are welcome and there is a children's club open daily. There is also a 'dine-around' option with Castillo Hotel Son Vida and St Regis Mardavall.

majorca-002On our first night we stayed at the Castillo Hotel Son Vida. It dates from the 13th century and re-opened a few years ago after being renovated with the best of 21st century elegance and contemporary design. The hotel is close to golf courses and is family friendly.

For our first stop on our second day we headed towards Port De Pollenca to visit the Hotel Llenaire. It is a small, luxurious property with only 12 rooms. Located in the midst of tranquil fields and open countryside, it offers the best of both worlds as it is a few minutes' drive or twenty minute walk from Port De Pollenca. This part of Mallorca has some of the island's best beaches so is very popular with families.

majorca-003We enjoyed a multi course, seemingly never- ending delicious tapas lunch at the popular Hotel Illa D'or. I have booked clients here for many years and it has a very high number of repeat guests so was completely full when we visited. The hotel is right on the waters' edge, half mile from the resort centre with sandy beaches close by. Behind the hotel are the Illa D'or apartments which are ideal for families.

On this trip we saved the best for last. This was the highlight for me, a night and day spent at the Belmond Residencia. Overlooking the picturesque honey-stone village of Deia and nestled against the majestic Tramuntana mountains, this luxury hotel blends beautifully into its setting. Converted from 16th and 17th century stone manor houses, this is an intimate and discreet hideaway much sought after by discerning travellers due to its idyllic surroundings, relaxing ambience and understated luxury.

The hotel's 67 rooms and suites are decorated in typical Mallorcan style, no two rooms are the same. All feature wooden shutters and French windows with views over the village or the mountains. The hotel boasts two beautiful outdoor pools and while this part of the coast doesn't offer sandy beaches, there is a delightful little shingle cove, Cala Deià, about 15 minutes' walk away.

Dinner at the wonderful 'El Olivo' restaurant was truly an amazing experience! You simply have to dine here – but you MUST pre-book as it is very popular.

The hotel offers a number of excursions including a complimentary boat tour along the coast during the summer and we went on a walking tour of the village visiting local artist’s studios. My favourite activity was a trek with two of the hotel’s donkeys through the olive groves to a shepherd’s hut on the hillside for a picnic of traditional cheeses, meats and local wines. The views were amazing!

Majorca has something for everyone and is perfect for a city or short break as well as relaxing summer holiday.
